Travel Tips

If you are coming from California, and hoping to have Friday to explore, there are several Thursday redeye flight options, but we actually recommend leaving on a midday flight with a layover in either Detroit or Atlanta, and getting you in around midnight. This will give you a full night of sleep in Pittsburgh so you can wake up refreshed on Friday morning. The same advice applies for folks looking to arrive in time for Saturday morning.

Also, a reminder: September 4th is Labor Day, a US holiday, so most of you will have Monday off from work! This may help with your travel plans, so keep that in mind.

Places to stay

Ace Hotel

Ace Hotel Pittsburgh lives in a five story, century-old YMCA building in East Liberty. The neighborhood was once a free-grazing field in the shadow of the Alleghenies, and before that it was under the sea. (You can still find brachiopod fossils hidden below the sidewalk.) It is a focal point in the neighborhood, which is currently undergoing a boom in development.

Room Block
If you are interested in staying at the Ace Hotel, we invite you to get our block room rate. You can either use our booking link or enter group code “PILEGGISIMS” on their online reservations page. If you plan on staying outside of Friday, Saturday, Sunday, we encourage you to call 412.361.3300 to ask for our rate.

Airbnb Wishlist

We've picked out some Airbnb listings that will accommodate larger groups, not too far from the Ace.

Springhill Suites

This newly renovated Pittsburgh hotel is a short drive away in Pittsburgh’s East End “Bakery Square” neighborhood, right next to Google’s Pittsburgh office.

Hotel Indigo

The Hotel Indigo is right around the corner from the Ace Hotel. It is a beautifully restored boutique hotel.

Transportation

Pittsburgh is made up of many small neighborhoods that are all very walkable once you get to them. Here are a few ways to hop around town.

Uber

You will see dozens of self-driving Ubers while you are in Pittsburgh because it is their test market. Here are some tips for trying to hail one while you’re in town.

Lyft

While they don’t drive themselves, we are still huge Lyft supporters. On average, it’ll be $14 to get from the Ace to PNC Park, $7 to get from Primanti Bros. to the Warhol Museum, and $34 to get from the airport to the Ace.

Light Rail

More commonly referred to as “the T”, the light rail has stops downtown, and a prominent stop between Heinz Field and the Pittsburgh Rivers Casino. Don’t get your hopes up for a full blown subway system, but the T can be really convenient on game days, to avoid traffic!
